Football in Greater Aweil gets a boost

Pan Aweil United FC is a soccer club formed in 2016 and sponsored by Pan Aweil Development Agency (PADA). The team is registered with the local Greater Aweil football league, which is a member of the South Sudan Football Association, and with FIFA.  The club is part of the Sport for Peace program promoted by PADA.

With assistance from Hanti Sidra One Global Family, a Canadian charity that partners with PADA, the club has received new green and white jerseys and shorts, sporting the PADA logo. Hanti Sidra has also obtained a donation of more than 40 jerseys and shorts from the Peninsula Soccer Association in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. These uniforms, which were delivered to Aweil in November, can be used by Pan Aweil United as alternate jerseys as well as for practices. In addition, Patrick Finucane, a supporter and benefactor of PADA from Vancouver, Canada, has donated four uniforms for referees in the league.

Pan Aweil United recently moved into first place in the league. The top team will advance to a Greater Bahr el Ghazal regional playoff in Wau against three other teams. The winners of that playoff will travel to Juba to compete for the South Sudan Cup.
